time once again...

...to start bitching about the weather. Other forecasts are saying 100 today! Granted there's a cold front coming through tomorrow and it's only supposed to be 75. And this is heating up the pool rather rapidly, so I got that going for me.

there's no bitching about the weather from you! You chose to move to the crappiest place on earth (DFW area) so no bitching about the heat!

hey, could be worse - I could live in Lubbock. I actually like it here where I live. Be sure to keep that attitude and don't move here - traffic is bad enough.

That Bay Area pompousness is really starting to rub off on you.

"I live in the best place on earth and everywhere else sucks."

"Because we're from Southwestern."

you explained it very well in your blog, danielle, and it's totally cool, and not pompous at all. Admittingly, if I were you, and Tim had said that (because we're from Southwestern) to me, I would've considered it a little pompous. And his weather comment, he knows nothing about this area,
and has no right to say it's the crappiest place on earth.

Maybe it's just me but if it looks like a duck and talks like a duck...I'm just an outside observer here.

First off, I didn't say anything about the Bay Area weather, being great or not (in fact, it has not stopped raining since January) I did not say anything about the greatness or lack thereof about the place I live.

As for not knowing anything about Dallas, I have lived in Texas all my life, and have been to Dallas many times, so I feel that I have a good impression of what the weather is like there (hot, humid, mosquitos, can see Oklahoma, stop me where I'm wrong)

As to the "b/c we're from Southwestern" comment, I feel that you are taking it out of context. There are many things in life that builds communities, school is one of them, friends another, education even another. For instance, I know very little about auto mechanics, but I would expect that those people that do spend their time rebuilding old cars, would enjoy seeing a movie about Henry Ford (or something).

Southwestern was a community that valued higher thinking, not learning, but thinking, and critical thinking skills are what I gained most from that school. I'm not saying that others schools don't offer that, I'm just saying that all schools offer it in a unique way. At Southwestern, it built a strong close knit community, others there have felt it as well, and I know that my friends in other places have had problems finding friends that they can relate to as they did their friends from Southwestern. That doesn't make us elitist, it just means we became accustomed over 4 years (more for some)to a certain type of discourse among our friends. It was also very liberal for a liberal arts school, and some of that wore off on us as well. So when Danielle asked me why were in a theater with a bunch of old hippies, I explained as above. Not that Southwestern, or being liberal, or whatever it meant to you in your mind, made us better than anyone else, but that it made us in to individuals who would appreciate this type of movie. That doesn't mean that people who went to school elsewhere are better or worse than us, (I'm sure "b/c we went to Harvard" would have worked as well) just different.

I could have it explained it to her in a different way, but coming from a common background, she was able to understand fully what I meant by that comment.

...ass

ok ok sheesh. Tim, I started out just yanking your chain. But then Danielle got all defensive. Like I said, she explained very well in her blog and it was not pompous. And "no criticism allowed" just because she warns in the beginning? That's not fair.

As for the weather/DFW area thing, you have not spent enough time here to know if it's bad. Visiting for a day or two doesn't count. It's not as humid, and there's a lot less mosquitoes. From what I've heard, Oklahoma sucks, and is different from here.

High level thinking is the goal of all universities, not just yours. I know you said that already. I understand all the community crap - I went to A&M for Christ's sake - it's like a cult. If I wanted to just get a degree and get a job being a calculator, I would've gone to Devry or some technical college for 2-3 years and saved a lot of time and money. Wouldn't have the job I have now, because it requires lots of creative thinking.

We saw the movie too, btw, because it looked different, interesting, and entertaining, but I didn't think of how great I was being there. Just saying.
